A Winston fly rod is designed to be the ultimate combination of performance, quality and beauty. Our high performing rods are made utilizing the most advanced materials, the most up-to-date technologies to maximize your angling success, joy of casting and pride of ownership. A Winston rod is built with passion, pride and the highest level of craftsmanship. And, regardless of price or material, has been designed to be the best of its kind. Ask any Winston owner. A Winston customer is a customer for life.
In recent years, Winston's pioneering use of boron/graphite composite has resulted in revolutionary advances in fly rod design. Boron is five times as strong and twice as stiff as steel, yet lighter than aluminum; the combination lets us add 25% more strength to graphite while significantly reducing weight. Our popular Boron III X series is incredible in terms of action, smoothness, line speed, power and casting range. Power and feel….together at last!
In fact, our reputation is built on it. We don't design rods with the sole purpose of casting long distances. Rather, we create rods that are a true marriage of beauty and performance and perform perfectly across the range of distances that you need to catch fish. They cast beautifully, incorporating smoothness, lifting strength and the ability to accommodate a variety of lines. Our philosophy is to make rods that "fish" as well as they cast, and it holds true for every rod we make.
Winston is a company that truly reflects the history and heritage of the sport of fly fishing. We are also a company that has been responsible for many of the most groundbreaking advances in fly rod design since our founding in 1929. From Lew Stoner's hollow-fluted bamboo to Doug Merrick's early use of fiberglass, to our pioneering work with IM6 graphite, to our success in blending boron and graphite to produce what is quite possibly the finest fly rods series even made, Winston has a long tradition of making groundbreaking design advances to maximize your fishing success and enjoyment. And we have no plans to stop.
We take an uncompromised approach to creating the finest fly rods in the world. Everyone who works here takes an extraordinary amount of pride in the rods they make. Pride in the performance and design of the rods, pride in the aesthetics of the rods, pride in the very heritage of the company itself. Yes, there may be easier ways of making our fly rods, but that is not the Winston way. We have no interest in building anything but the best.
